Lancashire traffic updates as A59 Golden Way remains closed between Penwortham and Preston

The road was closed for nearly six hours after a serious crash in the early hours of the morning.

Update: The road has now reopened.

A major route into Preston is closed this morning after a serious crash overnight.

Police closed the A59 Golden Way flyover into the city at around 1.45am while emergency services worked at the scene.

Investigation work is ongoing and the fly over into Preston remains closed as of 7.15am this morning.

A police spokesperson said: "We’re currently at the scene of a road closure on Golden Way in Penwortham.​

"The road is closed due to a road traffic collision and we anticipate this will be closed for some time.

"We’ll provide an update once cleared and thank you in advance for your patience."

At 6am, force added: "We are working as quickly as possible to get this reopened and will update in due course."
