You may know Shaw Hill for its reputation as a grand Georgian hotel set in 192 acres of beautiful grounds and golf course, as well as its indulgent spa.
However, it is also home to a brand new restaurant named Allamby’s Brasserie & Bar after the architect Laurence Allamby, who designed its golf course nearly a century ago.
The nod to its heritage is in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the golf course in 2025 – and to help mark it, the recently renovated restaurant is breathing new life into the Chorley dining scene.
But Shaw Hill is far from ‘just a golf club’. Fully open to the public, Allamby’s Brasserie & Bar is set to be the place to be for dining, cocktails, socialising and relaxing.
General Manager Oliver Gardiner said: “We have listened to what local people want from their dining experience and created a relaxed new space for everyone to enjoy.”
From brunch to Sunday lunch and afternoon tea
With moules mariniere, black pudding bon bons with shallot puree and prosciutto crisps and spring asparagus and goats cheese tartlets as starters, the new restaurant menu gives a modern twist to classic French cuisine.
Using locally sourced ingredients and only the best British produce, favourites such as Steak Frites with garlic butter and Allamby’s Beer Battered Fish sit alongside pesto gnocchi and salmon and scallops, with Parisienne potatoes, samphire and fennel veloutè.
A pork cutlet with caramalised apple, tenderstem broccoli, mini fondants, fennel salad and cider jus contrasts with cauliflower Steak, cooked with Indian spices, crispy onion bhajis, saag aloo and tomato chutney. And with halloumi and beef burgers, the grill and market fish of the day also on the menu, there is something to suit all tastes.
That’s before you even indulge in desserts from blood orange & cointreau crème brulee to dark & white chocolate brownie with Mrs Dowson’s Madagascan vanilla ice cream and spiced apple tarte tatin with clotted cream.
Allamby’s Brasserie & Bar also serves brunch from 10.30am –noon, with dropped pancakes, berry & yoghurt bowls and Danish pastries to Allamby’s full English and vegetarian breakfasts.
For light lunches, from noon -5pm daily, there are a selection of tempting sandwiches, wraps and ciabatta. Or who wouldn’t want to try Allamby’s Afternoon Tea, served from 2-5pm daily, with an optional glass of Prosecco?
Sunday lunch is a relaxed affair, served from noon -8.30pm, with roast beef sirloin and roast potatoes, with carrot and swede mash, tender stem broccoli, cauliflower cheese, pan jus and Yorkshire pudding – all for £19. Or opt for the chef’s roast of the day.
The menu is accompanied by a premium wine selection and, of course, Champagne, Prosecco and Cava for special occasions, plus a new, extensive cocktail menu, all specially curated by local industry experts LWC.
