'We've a more integrated town centre' after Chorley market's big move from the Flat Iron, says council leader
In July 2017, the Tuesday markets were moved from the Flat Iron to the town centre streets to allow car parking improvements to take place ahead of the Market Walk extension
being built.
Council leader Alistair Bradley, said: “At first, some people weren’t too sure on the relocation of the Tuesday markets but now, if you visit the markets on a Tuesday you will see that the town centre has a bustling atmosphere with so many people browsing the markets and other retailers.

Following development of the Market Walk extension, it is hoped that visitor numbers will increase further, attracting more people to the town.
Malcolm Allen, chairman of Chorley’s Trader’s Alliance and owner of Malcolm’s Musicland, said: “It’s been extremely good for business. Footfall was been up 60 to 70 per cent in the three weeks after it moved.
“It’s been excellent for the market traders and for the shops. The comments from customers say it makes Chorley feel like a market town again. It should have been done years ago.”
